e-Sahyog to verify Income Tax returns
Taxpayer will simply need to visit the e-filing portal and log in with his or her user ID and password
New Delhi: To make taxpayers’ life easier, the income-tax department has launched a pilot project “e-Sahyog” to provide an online mechanism to resolve a mismatch in their income-tax return without having to physically visit a tax office.
The project, launched on Tuesday, aims to resolve mismatches in tax returns for taxpayers whose retu-rns have not been selected for scrutiny. Under this initiative, the department will send SMS/emails to inform taxpayers of the mismatch.
The taxpayer will simply need to visit the e-filing portal and log in with his or her user ID and password to view mismatch-related information and submit an online response.
These responses will then be processed, and if the response and other information are found satisfactory, the matter will be closed. The taxpayers can check the updated status by logging on to the e-filing portal.
This move is expected to bring down the harassment of taxpayers and make doing business easier. It reduces the need for a taxpayer to appear before a tax officer and reduces compliance cost, particularly for small taxpayers.
Finance minister Arun Jaitley also inaugurated a drive to hold special PAN camps in 43 remote semi-urban and rural locations across India.
