KOCHI: The Congress-led UDF council in the Kochi corporation should explain to voters about the status of projects announced during their term rather than announcing new promises, CPM district committee secretary P. Rajeev has said.

Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, the CPM leader minced no words in stating that the UDF council was a total failure.

"It was ironic from the part of UDF to make new promises while it completely failed in fulfilling the assurances given earlier. The UDF which announced several schemes under Mission Kochi has failed to complete even a single major project. Comm-issioning Brahmapuram solid waste treatment plant by August this year, implementing e-governance, introducing RO-RO vessels by this year, modern slaughterhouses, sewage and septage treatment plants, construction of apartments at Thuruthy colony, multi-level parking system, new office building for the corporation, modern water transport system, public toilets are some of the unkept promises which still remain on paper," alleged Mr Rajeev.

Refuting the allegations of Mayor Tony Chammany that the previous LDF council had misguided the union government on land acquisition for the JNNURM projects, the CPM leaders said that the mayor has been making false statements.

"If land acquisition was a hindrance to implementing JNNURM projects, why the UDF council failed to take up projects which don't require land," asked C.K Mani Sankar, secretary of the Kochi Corporation committee of the CPM.

Meanwhile, responding to queries, Mr Rajeev said that the LDF is confident of winning all seats as the voters would give a befitting reply to the corruption and anarchy of the UDF.
