Kochi: A 15-year-old girl in Fort Kochi staged own kidnap drama on Tuesday to "teach" her parents a lesson for scolding her, but got caught in the act.
According to police, the class X girl boarded a red bus going to Aluva from Fort Kochi after leaving her home on the pretext of going to school.
She got down at Edapally at 10 am and barged into an LP school there, claiming that she was abducted by a group and she somehow managed to escape from kidnappers' car.
She stuck to her story even after the teachers and the principal repeatedly asked her as to what happened. Finally, they alerted the police. "Her parents scolded her for failing to get good marks in a school test paper. The girl was very upset and decided to teach her parents a lesson after being inspired by television sops. She revealed the truth when we questioned her after we smelt a rat in the story she narrated," said police.
The cops inspected footage of one of the CCTV cameras installed at Edapally which showed the girl alighting from a bus.
The girl was later left along with her parents after subjecting her to a counselling session.
