Hyderabad High Court refuses bail for Prathyusha’s parents

Hyderabad: Justice Raja Elango of the High Court on Wednesday refused to grant bail to Prathyusha’s parents, stepmother Ch Chamundeswari alias Syamala and father Ramesh Kumar, who have been arrested for torturing her.

In July, the LB Nagar police had rescued Pratyusha from her home after she had been brutally tortured, and arrested her parents. They moved the High Court seeking release on bail since the investigation in the case was complete and the chargesheet had been filed.

The Telangana State public prosecutor opposed the bail contending that though the charge sheet was filed, it would not be justified to release them on bail at this stage.

There was the matter of a threat to Pratyusha and scope for threatening of the victim and other witnesses if they were given bail. Following this, the judge dismissed the bail petition.
