Cabinet rejig: Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav sacks 8 ministers
CM hinted at expansion of cabinet after the Bihar assembly elections
Lucknow: In a move to rejig council of ministers, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav sacked 8 ministers on Thursday, including 5 cabinet ministers and 3 ministers of state.
“Akhilesh Yadav is set to rejig council of ministers on October 31; new faces likely to be inducted, said official spokesman.
On Wednesday, Yadav met Governor Ram Naik to discuss expansion of his cabinet.
The CM had hinted at expansion of cabinet after the Bihar assembly elections scheduled to end next month.
Uttar Pradesh has a maximum permissible strength of 60 for the council of ministers. There are 26 cabinet ministers, including the chief minister, 24 ministers of state, and four ministers of state (independent charge).
With the death of Minister of state (independent charge) for Rural Engineering Service, Rajendra Rana on Tuesday, the vacancies in the council of ministers has gone up to six.
