Visakhapatnam lacks on security aspect
The Act mandates installation of CCTV cameras where more than 100 people gather
Visakhapatnam: While Vizag is eyeing for a smart city status, the enforcement officials have failed to implement the AP Public Safety (measures) Enforcement Act-2013. The Act mandates installation of CCTV cameras where more than 100 people gather at a time.
The cops haven't taken any measures to implement the Act and are still educating and instructing the management of commercial and business establishments, hotels, guest houses and other public establishments to set up their own CCTV cameras. Only 20 to 30 per cent of the major establishments in the city are equipped with the surveillance cameras.
Sources in police said that they had identified more than 1,000 establishments such as educational institutions, commercial establishments, sports complexes, religious places, banks, bus stations, cinema theatres, hotels, industrial units, lodges, guest houses among others and have asked the management to set up CCTV with video footage for a minimum of 30 days and make it available for inspection as and when required.
However, only few star hotels and some big commercial establishments and railway station in the city have been equipped with CCTV cameras.
Ironically, the management of big establishments are ignoring their own safety by claiming it’s a costly affair, they added.
