Hyderabad: A 13-member team from the Election Commission of India began its investigations into the alleged illegal deletion the names of lakhs from the voters list. The team is visiting Assembly constituencies being represented by the BJP and TD legislators in the GHMC limits.

The team held an  open forum on Saturday to take complaints. Former Congress MLA Marri Shashidhar Reddy said: “GHMC has 35 per cent ‘settlers’ and 30 per cent Muslim voters. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has conspired to delete  the names of six lakh voters by claiming they are bogus, dead or have shifted out. How can the GHMC delete the names without issuing notice?”

BJP  national secretary N. Indrasena Reddy  demanded that a criminal case be booked against former GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar. “The TRS which does not have any city cadre took this step to  destabilise the TD and BJP where these two parties have a stronghold.”

TRS MLC P. Rajesh-war Reddy said the deletion of names was part of a correction exercise. “Removal of repeat and bogus names is a regular process. Everyone has the right to live freely in TS , which has been made clear by the Chief Minister as well,” he said.
