Hyderabad: This has led to sharp protests from BC unions and the BC welfare department had asked officials not to implement it till a final decision was taken by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
BC welfare minister Jogu Ramanna said the government has kept the creamy layer issue in “abeyance” and a final decision would be taken by the Chief Minister. “A GO was issued last year implementing the creamy layer. But after BC organisations strongly opposed it, we have kept the GO in abeyance for now.
The issue has been referred to the Chief Minister who will take a final decision. The government will give a clarity on this issue in three-four days,” said Mr Ramanna. Meanwhile, the issue has been referred to the law department.
“As per the Supreme Court directions, the creamy layer has to be implemented. The state government has little to do in this regard. The same was conveyed to the government,” said a senior official of law department.
Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, holding the revenue portfolio, on the other hand, has asked revenue officials to issue creamy layer certificates to candidates as per norms. BC leader R. Krishnaiah threatened to intensify the agitation if the creamy layer was implemented again.
“Why creamy layer only for BCs when other reservation categories like SCs, STs, women, NCC, sports etc., are left out? Reservations are not for economic development but for justifiable share for BCs in power and governance. “Earlier, when the YSR government had tried to implement the creamy layer, we had stalled it. We will not allow this to happen even now,” he said.
