Vigilance move to prosecute VS Achuthanandan's son Arun Kumar
It is learnt that the investigation team has recommended prosecution.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) team probing corruption charges against Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan's son V. A. Arunkumar has sought legal advice on the scope of prosecuting him.
VACB had registered a case against Mr Arunkumar and two others last year in connection with alleged financial irregularities during his tenure as managing director of state-run Coir Board.
According to VACB sources, Vigilance special cell SP V. N. Sasidharan, who probed the case, sent the factual report to its legal wing last month. It is learnt that the investigation team has recommended prosecution.
"A final decision on whether to prosecute the accused will be taken only after a scrutiny by the legal wing as well as higher-ups including vigilance director," said VACB sources.
A preliminary probe by the vigilance found prima facie evidence of irregularities to the tune of Rs 47 lakhs in connection with the construction of a go-down for a private company in Cherthala.
Apart from Arunkumar, company’s consultant R. K. Ramesh and contractor Mohammadali were also arraigned in the case. Arunkumar had faced probe related to several other allegations.
