Hyderabad: Fifty employees of the sanitation staff of the ENT Government hospital at Koti went on strike from Monday as they have not been paid salaries for four months by the contractor, Crystal Services. ENT Hospital is one of the well-maintained government hospitals and doctors say they managed on Monday with skeletal staff.
A senior doctor said, “The state government spends a good amount of money to keep the hospital clean. But the contractor constantly complains that the superintendent has not paid the final amount. It leads to a lot of confusion.”
The contractor was appointed by the Telangana Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation but the execution has to be done by the hospital superintendent. This leads to friction as the contractor and doctors complain against each other while the patients suffer.
A senior health officer said, “The staff waited for four months but instead of sorting out the issue, the state government blamed the superintendent who has no role to play apart from executing the work.” With the employees on strike, the hospital is pooling resources from the Aarogyasri department to ensure that basic cleanliness is maintained. The contractor refused to comment on the issue.
