HyderabadA complaint has been filed against a former MIM Corporator for colluding with a shop owner and taking up construction of a two-storied building, around 50 meter from Charminar. As per the Archaeological Survey of India guidelines, there should be no constructions within a 200-meter radius of the historical monument.

Mr Mohd Anwar Ahmed, a resident of Lad Bazar, in his complaint to the assistant town planning officer of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), stated that a shop, 50 meter from the monument, bearing door number 20-4-12 -15, Lad Bazaar was owned by one Mr Haroon Khan.

He stated that former MIM corporator Mr Mohd Ghouse and the owner had demolished the store to erect pillars for two floors. As per the Archaeological Survey of India guidelines, no person or owner shall construct or build within the protected area or carry any mining or excavation without the permission of the central government under Section 19 of the Ancient Monument, Sites, Remains Act 1958.

No construction can be allowed within 200 meter from the protected monument unless approval is obtained from the National Monument Authority. Charminar is a protected monument under the provision of the Act.

The heritage structure was built during the rule of Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591. As per the municipal corporation’s records, no permission has been taken for construction. A South Zone GHMC official will conduct an inspection.
