KOCHI: Deputy mayor B. Bhadra of the outgoing Congress-led corporation council has come down heavily on her party leadership for denying her renomination.

“Bitter factionalism has been weakening the Congress, but I was never part of any. I faced a crisis due to stiff resistance from them. I could present the last budget only after KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran intervened,” she said.

“The ruling bench has raised serious allegations against the financial condition of the civic administration that even the Opposition didn’t do. I’m satisfied that I could complete the tasks and responsibilities as deputy mayor.”

Ms Bhadra, the granddaughter of legendary poet Sankara Kurup, alleged that revenue minister Adoor Prakash had sabotaged the proposal to construct a Kurup memorial in the city.

“Even the chief minister is aware of this,” she said “I contested and won as a Congress candidate. But I was shocked to see the undercover operations in the mayor’s choice.”
