It is due to the complexities and inter-linkages with other state and national exams

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has dropped plans to introduce grading in Class XI and XII due to the complexities and inter-linkages with other state and national exams. The system is also incompatible with the Centre’s latest plans for a uniform curriculum, question paper and marking pattern for all states in the country.
The government was thinking of introducing the grading system and online evaluation of answer scripts. Now both have been shelved. Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari had earlier announced that the state was considering the grading system in first and second years of Intermediate and a computer-based valuation system of answer scripts. However, he later said that it was only a proposal. But sources informed that the same has been dropped now due to the complexities involved.
Intermediate marks carry 25 per cent weightage in TS Eamcet and, as of now, also in JEE Main. A top 20 percentile score or a minimum of 75 per cent in Class XI and XII is also a requirement for JEE Advanced. Unless absolute marks are awarded weightage can’t be decided. At present only the CBSE gives grades for Class XI and XII but that is along with absolute marks. Sources said the Union HRD Ministry had also recently said a uniform curriculum, question paper and marking pattern are to be evolved for the 2016-17 academic year leaving TS no choice but to drop its plans.
“When there is going to be a uniform all India policy for Class XI and XII, a separate plan for grading would be futile. It was meant to reduce competition but can’t be implemented now,” sources said. At the same time, computer-based valuation has also been dropped as reported earlier in these columns.
