Voter turnout shows improvement

BJP may lose out on existing seats, but to gain others, says UDF councillor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the state election commission publishing  the final poll statistics on Tuesday, the polling percentage in the  city corporation stood at 63 per cent as against the tentative 60 per cent  given on Monday.
 
A total of  1,17,599  votes out of the 1,53,003  in 100 city wards were polled. Though the turnout in the distinct was the lowest  in  the first phase,  it recorded  72.4 per cent  as against  69.27 per cent last time.
 
The Neyyatinkara municipality  stood apart  with 78. 47 per cent turnout in spite of heavy rain.  The Perumkada-vila block panchayat was among the best with 79.15 per cent votes.
