Islamabad: A Pakistani official says a factory building under construction in an industrial area on the outskirts of the eastern city of Lahore has collapsed, killing at least 10 workers.

Rescue official Jam Sajjad Hussain says dozens of other laborers remain trapped under the rubble. He says emergency teams are using heavy machinery to pull out bodies and survivors. State-run Pakistan Television said nearly 100 people were working inside the building when it caved in on Wednesday evening.

The TV said the 10 bodies were retrieved from the rubble.

The cause of the building collapse was not clear but it comes over a week after a magnitude-7.5 earthquake hit Pakistan, killing 273 people and damaging nearly 75,000 homes across the country.
