They are at it again! Sometime back, the duo of Pavithraj Sankar and Shyam Venkataraman experienced their first burst of viral fame for their incredible minimalist poster depicting every Kamal Haasan character image ever portrayed — right from his first movie Kalathur Kanamma (1959) to Papanasam (2015). This led to the Ulaganayagan meeting the two youngsters and autographing the design, writing, “Thanks for the hair-raising experience!”
Now, the Kanchipuram-based design enthusiasts have upped their ante by showcasing their fanboy love for Thala Ajith in the most epic manner possible, just ahead of his Vedalam release, withe: the quite-aptly titled, ‘Thalas of Thala!’
“We are both friends right from our childhood days, and avid film buffs. Also being into art, we decided to combine our love for the movies/ pop-culture with design! After Kamal, the one Tamil actor to experiment with so many makeovers is undoubtedly Ajith — and we felt this would be a perfect tribute,” smiles Pavithraj.
From 1990’s Enn Veedu Enn Kanavar that featured him as a scrawny 19-year-old teenager to Vedalam’s don-of-the-masses avatar, around 75 looks have been represented in the poster.
It has struck a chord with fans worldwide, making it one of the most re-tweeted posts this week. Says Shyam, “We obviously hope it reaches Thala (it probably has already!) and we get to meet him in person. The process took around three months with the best of our Photoshop and Adobe skills — we found time whenever possible to do it.” Do the friends have a favourite? “The Varalaru Godfather look!” they chorus in unison.
