Beef row: Bail for BJP leader

He was granted conditional bail by the 2nd JMFC Court on Wednesday

SHIVAMOGGAFormer city municipal president and district BJP general secretary S.N. Channabasappa, who was arrested on Tuesday for making provocative statements against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during a protest here on November 2, was granted conditional bail by the 2nd JMFC Court on Wednesday.
 
Coming out of the court, Mr Channabasappa said, “I will obey the court orders and not say anything more.” 
Mr Channabasappa was arrested after the Congress filed a case with the police. The BJP leader had allegedly said that he would behead the Chief Minister if he consumed cow meat in Shivamogga. The the police arrested him after registering FIR on sections 153, 506 and 353 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 
 
After undergoing a medical test, Mr Channabasappa was brought to the court around noon. But the hearing in the case was scheduled for at 3 pm. The judge, Jayaprakash, heard the arguments and reserved the judgement for 5 pm. 
 
Counsel for Mr Raghavendra, BJP national vice-president B.S. Yeddyurappa’s son, argued in favour of Mr Channabasappa and appealed for bail. Soon after the court convened again, Mr Channabasappa was granted bail. 
 
Mr Channabasappa went to the BJP office, wished his party members and proceeded home, where his family members were awaiting to welcome him.
