KOZHIKODE: Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri, the legendary Malayalam poet, is unknown to  the ‘New generation.’   To make children aware of his greatness, cartoonist E. Suresh has directed a 57-minute documentary titled ‘Arikil Akkitham’ for the IT @school organised by the VICTERS channel.

The poet’s daughter, Sreeja Unnikrishnan, narrates  the incidents that led Akkitham into the  world of poetry  and the role of poets like Edasseri in grooming him.  Mr Suresh told DC that  children would be attracted by the story told by the poet’s  daughter and that he had found it thrilling.

Artist Akkitham Narayanan, the younger brother of the poet, and his son also speak about him in the documentary.  Narayanan  recollects  the role of his brother in cultivating his interest in arts.
“I wanted to introduce a writer to the children through my documentary, so that he or she can help them understand a social issue which I was presenting better,” Mr Suresh said.

Akkitham’s daughter also recites his poems in the documentary. Mr Suresh has planned more documentaries  to introduce notable persons to the children, which he hoped would be useful to them  at some stages in  their life.
