Three CITU activists of Kazhakoottam were hacked by a four-member gang near Arashumoodu on Wednesday morning.

Thiruvananthapuram: Three CITU activists of Kazhakoottam were hacked  by a four-member gang near Arashumoodu   on Wednesday morning. The workers, identified as Suresh Lal, Jayaprakash and Saji, were admitted to the medical college hospital with injuries.   Personal animosity was said to be the  reason for the attack.  

Jayaprakash suffered serious injuries as he was attacked with a sword.   The other two were hurt  while trying to save Jayaprakash. Saji and Suresh Lal are brothers while Jayaprakash is Suresh Lal’s brother-in-law. He underwent a surgery at the MC hospital.  

The gang members comprising     Shyam  alias Ani, Shibin, Muttar Rasheed and Rajesh alias Kannan  are absconding. They were accused of various criminal cases in the past and were said to be  drug addicts.

The incident occurred  around 9.30 a.m. when the  group,  armed  with weapons, barged into the  CITU unit office and attacked the three  who are  headload workers.   Earlier on Monday, a scuffle had broken out  among them  over some issues, it is said.
