For centuries, Diwali has been celebrated as the Festival of Lights. Thanks to the recent rise of consumerism though, it is now all about gifts, unhealthy sweets, gifts, annoying firecrackers, and gifts again. Like it or not, you will have to buy ‘gifts’ for your family and friends. Considering that you will have to deal with different type of people, here are a few gift ideas that could consider the most. Listed below are five gifting ideas that range between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000 and choices considering family and friends.

Kindle Paperwhite (Rs 12,000):

Before the society crumbles due to the pop-culture and viral videos, let’s try saving it by reading 'good' books. While nothing beats a good-old book, Kindle is closest to that experience and is more convenient. Unlike, the colour screens found on most tablets, the Kindle comes with glare free monochrome display that does not strain your eyes. It holds thousands of books, and the battery lasts for weeks. So happy reading. Don’t pick-up any of Chetan Bhagat’s work though, as it defeats the purpose.

Philips HD Air Fryer (Rs 11,700):

All those fitness bands are pointless, if you don't eat healthy and exercise. Most of us are too lazy to hit the gym. However, eating healthy is the least you can do. Till now the problem was that healthy food never tasted good. Similarly, fried food that tastes heavenly is not ideal for your health. Not any more though, as Philips offers you the best of the both worlds. Its air fryer makes well over a half a kilo of French fries with a few drops of oil.

LG 32" LCD TV 32LF550A (Rs 20,000):

If you have been holding out for a TV, now is time to pull the trigger. Sure, you can get television sets cheaper than this, but if you in for the quality, LG's LCD panel is the way to go. The screen is IPS (In Pane Switching) type that offers good colours and wide view angles. As far as the reputed brands with good after sales service goes, the LG 32-inch LCD is a great deal.

Microsoft Xbox 360 (Rs 13,000):

Latest consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox One offer amazing graphics. However, Microsoft's previous gen console gets a recommendation because it is affordable. If you are getting not-so-great graphics for one-third of the PS4's price, most casual games won't mind. The Xbox 360 has a good line-up of games including Halo and Gears of War franchise.

Sony Hi-Fi System MHC-ECL7D (Rs 15,300):

Buy all the portable speakers you can, but nothing beats the good-old Hi-Fi audio systems. Since audiophile-grade stuff is incredibly expensive, the MHC-ECL7D is a good option for most of us. This two channel system offers 470 W RMS power. It is Dolby certified and supports popular format playback via USB. If in case you stumble upon a CD or DVD, this machine handles that as well.
