A 16-year-old Std XI Mumbai student was busy developing an app while Microsoft’s honcho Satya Nadella was briefing the media just a few kilometres away on Thurdsay. The teenager Umang is one of the youngest lad to be a part of Microsoft’s Developer Network and is proud to be sharing ideas with other MSDN developers around the globe.
In an interview with mid-day Umang Raghuvanshi mentions that he is like any other teenager his age and loves tinkering with technology. He prefers being busy with computers and gadgets and is always researching and experimenting with tech.
Umang is a Rajasthani kid who moved to Mumbai after finishing his Std X and is studying at Thakur Vidya Mandir High School and Junior College, Kandivli (E), Mumbai. His dream and aim is to stand apart from other kids his age. Umang moved to Mumbai with his parents in 2015. His craving for technology got bigger when he started learning about computer language and website development in school.
Umang has been specially working on an app which would have the ability to run on any computer without an internet connection. His main reason for this app was to get recognized by DreamSpark, a Microsoft programme, and be a member of the team.
DreamSpark is a platform, sponsored and driven by Microsoft that supports young students by giving them a professional level developer and designer tools at no cost. This investment from Microsoft’s side will help young talents chase their dreams and create the next big breakthrough in technology.
The young lad pitched his app idea to a member of DreamSpark, who liked it immediately and put him on the development team.
“I pitched in my idea (see box) to be a member of DreamSpark, and immediately got placed on board. What’s amazing is how I get to use all kinds of professional tools to create my own designs. That is better than the money any job can give,” Umang told mid-day.
When asked about how he felt to be part of one of the world’s biggest software giants, he said, “I use GitHub to get in touch with various people to design software. We share ideas and it is incredible how technology, and help from Microsoft, makes this world really small and accessible.”
He did not manage to attend the Microsoft conference which was held a few kilometres from where he resides simply because of his college timings. However, he is not disappointed that he could not see Satya Nadella in person and said, “I am sure, some day I’ll meet him in person, and there will be no crowd to fight through to get to him.”
Umang is presently preparing for his entrance exams to get through an IIT. His aim is to enrol himself into Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in USA and is working pretty hard towards it.
