Google is in talks with a few chip manufacturers about developing its own chipset for the Android platform. Similar to Apple where the iOS will run only on its own Ax chipset, Google now has been planning to keep Android running on their own chips.

According to a report on The Information, Google has recently spoken to a few microchip manufacturers in the matter. Google’s move in preferring their own designed chipsets will help bring more uniformity in the Android market which is already facing issues such as quick and parallel software updates and OS upgrades. With this, Google hopes to make Android more competitive with the similar method Apple is using.

If Google manages to get its own chips designed, Android will definitely be stable and we shall see quick and timely OS updates across the industry. However, this could spell trouble for the other smartphone manufacturers since the present chipsets used for Android are Snapdragon, Mediatek, Intel and a few others. If Google makes it mandatory for Android to run on its own chipset (similar to how iOS works), then either there will be authorized Google partners selling devices or Android smartphones will get expensive.
