Thiruvananthapuram: Senior Congress leader A. K. Antony has said that there were some undercurrents on the eve of the local body elections that led to the setback suffered by the UDF in the state. This would be studied and analysed in detail by the front, he said and added that he was disappointed, but not shocked by the poor performance of the UDF.

Mr  Antony told reporters in Delhi that the results were unexpected and asked the  Congress and the UDF allies to introspect on the outcome.  "This is not the time to criticise  each other," he said.

"The situation is not the same everywhere in the state.   In the run-up to the elections, undercurrents occurred across the state. But the UDF suffered from overconfidence after the victories in the Lok Sabha  elections and the byelections in Neyyatinkara and Aruvikkara,"  said Mr Antony.

He claimed that the UDF setback was not a cause for worry as it was a common occurrence in a democratic set-up.  The UDF would  overcome it and was not worried over the situation, he said and congratulated  the winners of the local body elections.
