Warangal: A 60-year-old man was killed by a group of monkeys on Saturday in Ghanpur village. The incident occurred when the deceased, Sammaiah Goud, tried to shoo off about 10 monkeys which entered his home and started ransacking the kitchen for food.

The monkeys attacked Sammaiah as he tried to run outside. They chased him and kept biting him. One of the simians held his legs and bit his ankle nerve which lead to major blood loss. He fell on the floor and died on the spot.

Villagers rushed to his house and managed to scare off the monkeys. They found him lying on the floor and took him to a nearby PHC where he was declared brought dead. Sammaiah was a widower and lived on pension. He did not have any children. Monkeys have lost their habitat due to decreasing forest cover and have started coming to villages causing severe problems for villagers.
