As the Kamal Haasan-starrer Thoongavanam, a thriller directed by Rajesh M Selva, is releasing today, we talk to Aman Abdullah who plays Kamal’s son in the movie. The 13-year-old, a student of Sherwood High, grins when asked about his first meeting with the Ulaganayagan. “At first, I was quite nervous. He’s such a big star. But as the shoot went on, the more and more I saw him, the more he kept talking to me. He’s such an amazing actor! And I wasn’t nervous any more; it got better over time,” says the little man. And when asked who is his favourite —Kamal Haasan or Rajinikanth — without missing a beat he says ‘Kamal Haasan’.
Thoongavanam is Aman’s debut film. “I act in a lot of plays in school and my drama teacher liked the way I act. He thought I was really good at it. So, when he saw an advertisement on Facebook for the role, my teacher immediately said ‘I know a boy, perfect for this’. That’s how I went for the audition. Director Rajesh sir was there and he tested me on a variety of things —gave me situations to act in, and so on,” Aman tells us. And how was the experience? “It was a blast! I really enjoy acting and hopefully I will get more roles in the future. The other actors were so amazing and friendly. Trisha and Madhu Shalini were really kind. Everybody on the set behaves like a family,” he says, adding, “They were quite coordinated and knew what they had to do, their duties. It was so nice to see and be a part of that,” he smiles.
