It was during the audio launch of Jayasurya-starrer Jilebi did Anjali Aneesh Upasana get a chance to meet her old friend Vipin Atlee after a long gap. When she moved near to him while standing in a queue near the buffet counter, Vipin saw her and said, ‘No Anjali, there is no point in saying hello to me. I am not planning to cast you in my film’. It was his first reaction when he met his friend, who has acted in his advertisement films. I was shocked after seeing his reaction as I was not aware about his direction plans. I told him that I was about to say hi as we were friends. But he repeated that there was no role which suits me in his film,” recollects Anjali, who eventually got a prominent role in the same movie – Ben.

On an unexpected moment, Anjali received a call from Vipin. “One night he called me and said he wanted to narrate his script to me. I said okay. It was after hearing the script I understood that it is of the same film about which he told me during the audio launch of Jilebi. Interestingly, he gave me an important role— Asha Justin, the mother of the title character,” says Anjali, adding that she did not forget to tease Vipin citing their conversation during the function.

Anjali says Asha is a close-to-heart role she got in her career. “This character was created based on a real person. Asha is a typical mother who becomes a bit cruel to her son. To be frank, it was a tough job for me as I cannot be like Asha in the real life,” says the actress, adding that it was Vipin’s support that made her do justice to the role.

“Even during dubbing, I tried to flee the studio citing several reasons. But again, Vipin chettan supported me, saying there is no point in bothering about the sweetness of sound or accent. A real life mother can render her dialogues in any manner,” says Anjali, who has just wrapped up the shoot of Olapeepi in which she is acting as another mother, but quite a different one.

“Asha talks loudly even to her son, but Devi in Olapeepi is very silent. She is a typical village woman who respects her family members. Moreover, she is very soft to her children,” says Anjali.
