New terminal roof collapses
A team of engineers along with the Airports Authority of India had designed the roof to give it an aesthetic feel
Tirupati: A section of the plaster of Paris roof collapsed in the newly constructed airport terminal in Renigunta on Sunday. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 22, and flight operations are expected to begin on November 15.
Some technicians on condition of anonymity said the poor quality of work and haste in completion of the project had resulted in the collapse of the PoP segment. Airport director V.V. Rao was not available for comment.
A team of engineers along with the Airports Authority of India had designed the roof to give it an aesthetic feel. Civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapati Raju had said a few days back that international flights would be operated from the new terminal as the passenger traffic on flights going abroad had increased. There were no casualties.
