Hyderabad: Two 15 TMC capacity reservoirs are being planned near Ramoji Film City and Shamirpet to store water from the Godavari. Four other elevated reservoirs will also be built in the city, Chief Minister K. Chandra-sekhar Rao said while launching the twin bin system and auto trolleys in the city on Monday. By November-end, every household in the GHMC area will get two colour-coded bins to segregate garbage at homes. TS is the first state to provide such bins. The around 1,600 sanitation employees who were sacked for going on strike have been asked to report to work.
The government will purchase 44 lakh twin bins for at-source segregation of garbage and Rs 21 lakh has been allotted for this. Every day, a person generates 500 gm to 1 kg waste, indicates a GHMC survey. Once the colour coded bins are distributed, residents will be educated on how to segregate wet and dry waste at home, the CM said.
“The four reservoirs supplying water to the city have gone bone dry and many areas don't get water for days. Even during small downpours, cars turn boats due to very bad roads and encroachment of drains. The government needs Rs 10,000 crore to remove drain encroachments. The city was ignored by the previous administration. Once TRS came to power, elected representatives were sent to New Delhi and Nagpur to study sanitation. To remove the city’s waste 2,000, auto trolleys have been purchased and in areas where trolleys cannot go tricycles will be deployed. Another Swachh Hyderabad programme will be held in November. Over 1,000 km of roads will be re-carpeted and 400 km will be given white topping. LEDs will replace all streetlights and every household in the 12 merged municipalities will get a tap connection,” the Chief Minister added.
Earlier, the government had sanctioned Rs 200 crore for civic works identified during the first Swachh Hyderabad programme. The Chief Minister asked the GHMC commissioner to execute those works.
