Continuous rain hits district

TirupatiIncessant rains that lashed the entire district including the sacred Seven Hills shrine of Lord Venkateswara during the last couple of days have brought respite to the water-starved town which registered about 180 mm of rainfall. On Monday, the average rainfall registered 115 .2 mm in the district and most of the village tanks were filled with water. 
 
Landslide occurred at some places on the second up ghat road of Tirumala on Sunday. 
 Due to the continuous rains, the sand eroded under the boulders and they fell on the ghat road at 9 km. 
The TTD engineering and forest department removed the boulders immediately. But, the TTD vigilance staff did not allow two-wheelers on the ghat road as a precautionary measure for more than three hours since the incident in the morning.
 
Similarly, boulders fell due to landslides at 1,700 steps at Srivarimettu route. But, no damage occurred. 
Denizens of many town and villages have faced lot of inconvenience due to incessant rains. The canals in the district are brimming with water. 
The Kapilatheertham and Malvanigundam water is gushing with heavy force due to heavy rains.
 
Though the twin towns of Tirumala and Tirupati reeled under heavy rains since Saturday night, a maximum of over 130 mm of rainfall was received only on Sunday night. The incessant rains also brought with them abundant water leading to a substantial increase in the water storage levels at all four major drinking water projects atop the temple town.
 
Heavy rain expected in coastal areas of AP:
 
Rain lashed various parts of Nellore district following a depression in the Bay of Bengal. Sea surged to the extent of 50 meters in the coastal area of Kavali causing scare among fishermen.Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected in South Coastal AP under. A control room with landline number 0861-2331477 has been  established in thr Collectorate at Nellore. 
A group of seven fishermen belonging to Vodarevu in Chirala mandal of  Prakasam district had a harrowing experience when they got stuck near the coast at Kavali while returning after fishing in Pennar River creek late on Sunday night.
 
Their boat capsized because of tidal waves but one of them managed to get back into boat and saved the others with the help of a rope. Fishermen of Tummalapenta near Kavali rushed into the sea and brought back the fishermen at the instance of revenue officials of Kavali, who  got a message following information passed on by fishermen in distress  through their mobile phones.
 
 
According to weather department officials, the deep depression crossed the coast at Kadaluru, south of Puducherry around 3 pm on Monday. Nellore City recorded 32.7 mm till 8.30 am on Monday and 21.0 mm by 5.30 pm. Heavy rain associated with gale battered the city as  well as the entire coast from Tada to Kavali throwing normal life out of gear from Monday afternoon.
 
District Revenue Officer, Sudharshan Reddy said that they have deployed  officials for monitoring the situation and all Tahsildars stationed in  the mandal headquarters. District Collector, M Janaki directed the officials to stay in their working mandal for taking up any measures to support the victims. Gudur alone received around 7 cm rainfall on  
Sunday and also 6 cm on Monday. IMD warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places in Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam  and Nellore of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and also in Chittoor, Kurnool,  Cuddapah and Anantpur of Rayalaseema on Tuesday and Wednesday.
 
Meanwhile, Vakadu recorded the highest of 9 cm followed by 7 cm at  Pellakur and 6 cm each at Atmakur, Manubole, Kaligiri, Udayagiri and Sydapuram mandals. The average rain fall was 4 cm in the district. 
Caution flag Weather Warning Flag No 1 was hoisted at Krishnapatnam   port indicating severity of the weather. Fishermen were also warned not to venture into 
sea as the conditions have been rough to very rough due to depression.
