KOCHI: The LDF and UDF are out to grab power in Maradu municipality where they are locked in a stalemate 15-15. Both fronts are trying hard to woo Boban Nedumparambil and Jabbar Papana, the two Congress rebels, who won the election. Divya Anil Kumar is the third independent in the 33-member municipality.

The LDF is in talks with the Congress rebels to join its fold and is confident that at least one of them will join. The LDF has offered Divya Anil Kumar the post of the chairperson.

In Maradu, the chairperson post is reserved for a woman. The LDF is understood to have offered the vice-chairman post to Boban or Jabbar whoever joins the front first. When one more councilor joins the front apart from Divya, the LDF will get an absolute majority.

However, Devarajan T.K., former chairman of Maradu municipality, claimed that rebels would return to the UDF.  He said that the post of the chairperson could be given to Anitha Nandakumar. It is understood that the front is proposing to divide the vice-chairmen post for two-and-a-half years between Boban and Jabbar.
