Nellore: The stage is set for establishing Krishak Bharati Cooperative (Kribhco's) DAP/Complex fertiliser plant at Sarvepalle mandal near Krishnapatnam port. The project was delayed due to some irregularities in identifying the land holders in the project site to pay compensation.
The impediments have been sorted out and 286 acres of land has been handed over to the Kribhco recently. The Rs 1,800 crore project would produce six lakh tonnes of phosphoric and potassium fertilisers per annum in the first phase and another six lakh tonnes in the second phase. P&K Fertilisers are partially decontrolled as companies are free to decide prices while subsidy on it is fixed by the government.
Kribhco is in the process of finalising the firms located at Saudi Arabia and Morocco to supply the raw material such as phosphoric acid and ammonia. The material will be shipped to Krishnapatnam port and a pipeline is being designed to transfer the same to the unit from the port. Sources in Kribhco said that they have plans to bring ammonia from their own unit in Oman which is producing four lakh tonnes of ammonia and marketing in the Arab countries itself.
The first of its kind state-of-the-art plant in the East Coast, the unit would provide direct employment to 300 persons in the first phase and indirect employment to thousands more. According to information, Kribhco has been waiting for environmental clearance to commence the work on the site. Although district authorities planned the foundation laying ceremony on November 21 by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the absence of Kribhco managing director in the country led to postponement.
Sources in administration said that the Union minister for urban development M. Venkaiah Naidu is keen on bringing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lay the foundation stone for the project either in the last week of November or in December.
