KOZHIKODE: At a time when rebels were playing a decisive role in many local bodies in Kozhikode and one even became the kingmaker in nearby Kannur Corporation, in Kozhikode municipal corporation, they could not make any impact.

One of the rebel candidates in the city, DCC Secretary Ramesh Nambiyath , who contested from Naduvattom against UDF candidate  P Bala Gangadharan of CMP , grabbed 72 votes despite  withdrawal from the election.

His withdrawal came after the last date of withdrawal and technically his name was on the ballot slip. However, here the UDF candidate was pushed to the third place and the CPM candidate beat BJP by 767 votes.

In Chevayur, youth congress leader Adv Vidya Balakrishnan , though faced with strong opposition from rebel Shaji, bettered her majority to 354 votes from 166 votes in 2010.

Here, a faction of congress workers was against giving the general seat to Vidya. On the whole, rebel candidates have not fared well.
