Visakhapatnam: A person was beaten to death and his body burnt by locals who suspected he was practicing witchcraft and black magic in a village in Vizag Agency. The incident took place in Soburu village of Dumbriguda mandal on October 14, but came to light only on Tuesday, when his wife complained to the Dumbriguda police here on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as P. Konda, 56, a resident of Soburu and a farmer. According to Dumbriguda Inspector Ramakrishna, wife of Konda Appalamma told the police that on October 14 night, her husband, who is a farmer, was taken away from home by some villagers to discuss some issues but never returned.
Later, she came to know that they took Konda to an isolated area, beat him to death and burnt his body. Police said that Appalamma mentioned eight names in her complaint, and when they went to the village, all the eight were absconding. The Inspector added that the villagers had threatened her with dire consequences if she complained to the police. However, on Tuesday, with the help of her relatives, Apallamma approached the police and lodged the complaint. Police has registered a case and investigation is on.
