New Delhi: Rejecting suggestions that RSS boss Mohan Bhagwat’s comments on reservations had a negative impact on the BJP-led NDA’s electoral fortunes in Bihar, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday it was the Grand Alliance’s social equations that cost the BJP-led alliance dearly.

Mr Singh also asserted Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not be held responsible for the NDA’s humiliating defeat. Mr Singh’s came out in support of the PM on the day when the party’s Begusari MP, Bhola Singh, accused Mr Modi and BJP president Amit Shah of injecting communalism into the campaign in Bihar.

Also, senior RSS pracharak Suresh Jain made an oblique comment on the BJP leadership by saying that ‘non-admission of mistakes’ due to ‘arrogance’ had caused more damage.

His remarks came a day after Mr Shah met the RSS supremo. BJP asked its leaders not to publicly vent their anger over the party’s disastrous performance in Bihar. Also, with RJD supremo Lalu Prasad planning to launch a wider battle against the BJP by visiting several states across the country, the BJP is getting restless.
