Ex-serviceman drugged, robbed of Rs 1.5 lakh on train
Mr Varghese was on his way to visit his ancestral house at Alappuzha
Kochi: A Keralite passenger travelling from Bhopal to Ernakulam in the Kerala Express was drugged and looted of his belongings worth over Rs 1.5 lakh.
P.A. Varghese, 50, a native of Alappuzha and an ex-serviceman now settled with his daughter at Sawaimathopur, Rajasthan, was found in an unconscious state in one of the sleeper coaches when the train reached Ernakulam Junction on Wednesday morning.
“He later regained consciousness and according to his statement three men offered him ‘Fruity’ drink as soon as he boarded the train in Bhopal on Monday. When he refused it, the men dropped some juice on his face while opening the cover.
Then by pretending to help him, they wiped off the same with a handkerchief. He felt drowsy immediately after that and woke up only today,” said a senior government railway police officer.
According to him, a three-sovereign gold chain and two gold rings were robbed besides Rs 8,000 in cash. The robbers also withdrew Rs 30, 000 with his stolen ATM card. He had saved the password in his mobile which was also found missing,” the officer said.
Mr Varghese was on his way to visit his ancestral house at Alappuzha. Other passengers in the train perhaps may not have realised my condition, he told the police in Ernakulam.
