Kozhikode: The Economic Offences Wing under the Crime Branch CID has started a probe against a group of local policemen attached to the Thrissur district police after the wing found certain ‘recovered’ items from the office of Nano Excel missing in the court production list.

Sources told DC that office computers, laptops and several other materials seized from the office were missing. Some of the items were never produced in the court or were  missing after producing then in the court, sources said.

EOW Kannur SP,  Mr Asokan,  is leading the investigation against the policemen who are now accused of looting the valuables. The police had registered a case against Nano Excel company after several investors approached the police and lodged a cheating complaint against it.

The police had found that the company had duped several thousand  customers to the tune of over  Rs. 350 crore after assuring them  high returns through implementation of a power project in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh government.

“We have initiated an inquiry against some local policemen in Thrissur. We found  that there was  a mismatch between the available items and  the actual materials recovered from the offices. Nano Excel officials had also given us a list of materials that were seized from their offices and we could not find them in the custody of the police,” a senior EOW official said.

Earlier, the Aluva police were  accused of sharing Rs. 65 lakh in cash that was seized from an employee of Nano Excel among themselves. The Home Minister had initiated an inquiry then and the policemen  returned the amount to avoid further damage. The policemen were accused of siphoning off the money without registering a case.
