Welcoming the High Court order, many teachers and syndicate and senate members said that these centres were created for misappropriation of funds.

KOZHIKODE: The Calicut university syndicate meeting was postponed for the second time because of the bar scam and as a result, oath taking ceremonies at civic bodies. Earlier, the syndicate meeting was scheduled to be held on November 12.

However, syndicate member Adv P.M. Niyas had to take the oath on the same day as Kozhikode municipal corporation councillor from Chalappuram ward, which led the authorities to prepone the meeting to November 11.

However, it is learnt that following the bar scam verdict and finance minister K.M. Mani’s resignation, the MLAs in the syndicate requested a change in the meeting date because various deliberations were going on at Thiruvananthapuram.

“The politicians in the syndicate committee requested that the date be changed as they would be busy with political deliberations. But the vice chancellor was present and was available for the meeting,” said a source.

The new date for the meeting has not been decided. Meantime, the senate meeting of the varsity will be held on November 24.
