Karnataka government planning judicial probe into Madikeri clash: Dinesh Gundurao
Strict action will be initiated against those responsible for the clash, Mr Gundurao said
Mysuru/Hassan: The state government is contemplating ordering a judicial probe into Madikeri clash, said new Kodagu in-charge minister Dinesh Gundurao.
He was speaking to media persons after visiting the mortuary at KR Hospital where the body of 23-year-old Sahul Hameed, one of those who died in Tuesday’s incident, was kept. He said an investigation by the regional commissioner has begun. Strict action will be initiated against those responsible for the clash, Mr Gundurao said, adding, “I request BJP leaders not to indulge in politics over this issue.”
The minister asserted that he was happy over being chosen for the job of district minister as his father was elected as an MLA from the region. Meanwhile the body of Sahul, who died at a private hospital in Mysuru after suffering bullet injuries in Kodagu on Tuesday, was shifted to Madikeri.
A huge number of Muslims gathered near the mortuary and demanded that the body be taken to a nearby mosque. The police convinced them and ensured the body was shifted to Kodagu. Mr Gundurao also visited the house of VHP leader Devappanda Kuttappa ( who died during the clash at Madikeri,) at Iggodlu in Somvarpet taluk.
SDPI State General Secretary Abdul Mazid who participated in the funeral of Sahul, told DC, that Sahul was the only son of Nasir and Kunsum who have two daughters too. The boy who worked as a mechanic at a showroom of Toyota in Bengaluru, was resting at home after a bout of jaundice for a month. He had reportedly gone along with 150 other boys in a lorry to attend the anniversary function.
Tension in Hassan
Members of two communities clashed over Tipu Sultan anniversary controversy with one group setting a few two-wheelers on fire and damaging four-wheelers parked on the roadside. The incident took place between 6.30 pm and 7 pm on Thursday.
It started with members of one group shouting slogans against Tipu Sultan and another group opposing it. A police officer told DC that a few people sustained injuries in the clash. A BJP leader of Hassan said the violence occurred when members were taking out a bike rally appealing to residents to support the bandh call given by members of VHP against the death of Kuttappa in Madikeri on Tuesday.
