Odisha: 2 Maoists killed in encounter

BHUBANESWAR: Two Maoists were on Thursday killed in an exchange of fire with the joint security forces — Odisha police and CRPF — in the ongoing combing operation in Chandiposh forest near Rourkela.
One of the rebels was identified was identified as Sangram, the platoon commander of Sar-danda Division of the Maoists. According to state director general of police K.B. Singh, 30 rebels belonging to Anmol camp were camping in the Daldali hills. Anmol is the zonal head of Maoists in Samb-alpur, Bargarh, Kuch-inda, Deogarh ar-eas.
Acting on Intelligence inputs, the police and CRPF personnel launched attack on the early hours on Wednesday which led to a fierce encounter between both the sides. “The operation was conducted by 3 units of Special Operation Group, one unit of CRPF and District Voluntary Force.
“Two Maoists were killed, one a top ranking Naxal named Sangram (35), along with substantial arms and ammunition, including four 3o4 rifles, 284 rounds of bullets, four grenades, gelatin sticks, Maoist literature and camping materials were seized,” said the DG Mr Singh.
The rebels were planning to launch attacks during Jharkhand panchayat elections, said the Director General of Police.
