Blade runner Singh among marathon runners in Kochi

The marathon will have three race categories

Kochi: Major D P Singh, the 42-year old Kargil war veteran and India’s first amputee marathon runner, will be amongst prominent personalities attending Spice Coast Marathon in Kochi on Sunday.

Maj. Singh famous as Indian Blade Runner will be leading a group of 20 blade runners in the Spice Coast Marathon, according to Soles of Kochi the organizers of the event.    

The event sponsored by IDBI Federal Life Insurance will see more than 2000 runners taking to the streets on Sunday early morning from KK Premachandran Sports Complex, Willingdon Island.    

The marathon will have three race categories. The Full Marathon (42.2 km) starting at 4:00am will be followed by more popular Half Marathon (21.1 km) at 5:00am. The Family Fun Race (5 km) starts at 7:00am.

The Marathon will witness equal number of male and female runners on race day. The youngest runner is aged 8 years, and the oldest 67 years. Runners can still choose to participate with registration for the event.
