Thiruvananthapuram: Repackaged garbage plan soon
CPM model wards to boost waste management at source
Thiruvananthapuram: With assembly elections around the corner, political parties are gearing up to repackage their development programmes for their wards.
It was on Thursday that the CPM state committee announced that all the wards that were ruled by their representatives would be made model wards. As per the district leaders of the party, the model ward idea would be a continuation of whatever the previous corporation has done earlier.
“Garbage management at its sources and rooftop vegetable farming will be boosted on a war-footing. Last time we could only go on an overdrive just before the elections. Having got a second tenure, the LDF hopes for a fresh start in managing waste related issues,” said former Health standing committee chairperson Pushpaletha.
The corporation’s first agenda after coming to power would be to provide welfare pensions to the aged, physically challenged among others, she added. The pension had been pending because of procedural delays caused by linking them to the Aadhar card.
With a new opposition in the form of the BJP, the CPM will have tight competition in terms of implementing welfare measures. In the past, BJP ruled wards had emulated CPM projects rather than protest against their rival’s projects.
