Raid was conducted after complaints poured into the ACB about Rao
Hyderabad: Kukatpally ACP N. Sanjeev Rao was arrested by ACB for allegedly amassing wealth through corruption. ACB officials on Saturday conducted raids at six places including the Alwal residence of the officer. The ACB officials seized property worth Rs 2.9 crore (market value Rs 13 crore) from Rao.
The raids are still going on and the sleuths are yet to verify his bank balance as banks were closed on Saturday. During the raid the ACB officials found that Rao had 90 acres in Telangana apart from flats, houses, gold, a commercial complex and a farmhouse.
“He is having lands in Medak and Warangal. He owned a commercial complex in Hasmathpet and a farmhouse in Shamirpet. He also owns flats and houses. We recovered 750 grams of gold and Rs 3 lakh in cash from his house,” said a senior official from ACB.
The raid was conducted after complaints poured into the ACB about Rao. Rao, who is known to be close to a TD leader, was involved in corruption while he was posted in Nizamabad and Karim-nagar. Before posting as Kukatpally ACP he had worked as DSP, ACB in Nizamabad.
In his two years as ACB DSP, he nabbed around 45 babus for corruption and registered DA cases against them. “We have now arrested him. He has been sent to judicial remand. The investigation will continue,” said an ACB official.
