Hyderabad: Out of the second part of Krishna Phase-III water supply scheme, 25 MGD will be supplied to Prashasannagar, Kukatpally, Madhapur and areas up to Serilingampally, The remaining 20 MGD will be supplied to other parts of the city.

From Godavari in the first phase, 26 MGD will be drawn initially and this will be gradually ramped up to 86 MGD, he said.

The situation is so dire at Manjeera that crocodiles from the reservoir have started entering Kalabgoor village. Officials fear the crocodiles would enter other localities surrounding the reservoir.

The situation is no different at the Singur reservoir in Sangareddy mandal, which is home to 780 crocodiles. Forest officials have caught seven crocodiles which had entered the sugarcane fields in the neighbourhood. The crocodiles were shifted back to the reservoir, but the reptiles may move out again as water levels fall.

Farmers who get their irrigation water from Singur are contemplating to cultivate crops that don’t need much water. Villages have been instructed to make agricultural borewells their alternative source.

The government has dug over 180 agricultural borewells and has an option to take more on lease. The government is also identifying sites to dig more borewells. Water from tankers will be supplied to the villages.
