Green norms a must for new buildings in Amaravati

Hyderabad: Malls, multiplexes, hospitals, hotels, commercial buildings and all the government buildings coming up in over 1,000 square metres plot area in Amaravati capital city should mandatorily follow the Energy Cons-ervation Building Code (ECBC).

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked CRDA to give permissions only for green buildings. Union government also came forward to help AP government and will set up an ECBC cell in Andhra Pradesh with national level emp-anelled architects to monitor compliance of ECBC rules in Amaravati.

As per the directions of the Chief Minister, the CRDA is working out modalities and preparing a comprehensive report for ensuring all the government constructions in the capital city of Amaravati will be green buildings and energy efficient ones.

Every structure coming up in the city will mandatorily follow Energy Conservation Building Code as part of promoting clean and green energy.

AP Energy secretary Ajay Jain said that the state occupies a leading position in the country in implementation of Ene-rgy Conservation Buil-ding Code (ECBC), a national program taken up by government of India in association with UNDP for ens-uring ‘Energy Efficiency Improvements in Commercial Buildings.’

As per this code, all multiplexes, hospitals, hotels etc., and other commercial buildings having a plot area of more than 1,000 sq metres have to incorporate energy efficiency from design and construction stages itself with mandatory single star rating in the initial phase, said Ajay Jain.

Government of India has cleared the proposal of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for establishment of exclusive ECBC Cell/Wing in AP which will be helpful for the state to reach the target of achieving ar-ound 40 per cent to 50 percent saving of energy in the building sector.

This Cell to be established with cent per cent funding from BEE and United Nations Devel-opment Programme ( UNDP), will have national level empanelled building Architects to monitor compliance of ECBC rules in the state.  

The Director General of BEE  Ajay Mathur said the Union Power Ministry has decided to dep-ute secretary of BEE Sanjay Seth to assist AP for enhancing energy efficiency activities in building sector in AP particularly in the context of establishing world class capital city Amaravati.

“It is a great boon for AP that the British government has agreed in principle to extend support for developing Ama-ravati city using world class engineering technologies and also making the city to be pollution free by adopting various scientifically researched methods available in the Globe,” said State Energy Conservation Mission chief executive officer A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy.

Construction of Green buildings in the capital city will certainly aid in building a environment friendly city and also attracts many new investments, especially from the building sector across the world said Ajay Jain.

Dr. Ajay Mathur, director general of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), has requested the state  government to share the success story of State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) LED lights distribution program and implementing energy efficiency measures during  Intern-ational Conference on Energy Efficiency in Buildings’ (ICEEB 2015) from Dec-ember 17 at New Delhi to be conducted by premiere organisations  Uni-ted Nations Developm-ent Program, Global Environmental Facility, BEE. About 29 countries are expected to participate in the Global event.
