India is my home and I love it, tweets Adnan Sami

The Pakistan government now refuses to issue an NOC to Adnan’s Indian citizenship

Mumbai: Pakistan which so far seemed gung-ho about Adnan Sami’s proposed Indian citizenship has sudden woken up to losing a precious artiste.

Earlier this month, Pakistani authorities refused to issue the "renunciation of citizenship certificate" to Sami. Pakistani officials dealing with his renunciation process were quoted saying that the refusal came after the singer "threw away his nationality documents". They were upset because of his alleged disrespectful behaviour towards his national identity.

"I don't need the green passport anymore. I have found my home in India," the official quoted a line from a letter, said to have been written by Sami, attached with his Pakistani passport posted to Pakistan's High Commission in New Delhi.

Apparently the Pakistan government now refuses to issue an NOC (no objection certificate) to Adnan’s Indian citizenship. This belated Pakistani protest to a non-diplomatic move that cannot be controlled by the Pakistani government has apparently annoyed and incensed sections of the Indian government.

Says a well-informed source from the BJP, “As far as I know all the formalities regarding Adnan’s Indian citizenship have been cleared. What is this sudden awakening of the Pakistani government about Adnan’s citizenship ? Didn’t Pakistan refuse to renew his passport recently? How can they now object to his changed citizenship? They have no authority to object. Any individual is free to  live in any country as long as  the country chosen by him is willing to have him.”

A source close to Adnan said, “Pakistan had no interest in Adnan’s citizenship until the Pakistani intelligentsia woke up to the fact that the country was about to lose a talented musician and that doesn’t look good in diplomatic circles. But Adnan is determined to stay only in India as for him India is home and no amount of cajoling and persuasion from across the border will help him change his mind.”

Meanwhile, Adnan broke his silence and took to social media to express his views in a series of tweets.
