Centre extends ban on NSCN-K
Army was mounting pressure on NSCN-K to follow the grounds rule of ceasefire agreement
Guwahati: The ministry of home affairs on Monday extended ban on NSCN-K and its frontal organisations through a gazette notification under provision of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967. The faction led by S.S. Khaplang was responsible for killing of 18 army personnel in Manipur.
The NSCN-K, which had signed a peace agreement in March 2001, had withdrawn unilaterally from the ceasefire agreement in March this year. Though, home ministry had not taken any decision on breaking the ceasefire, the outfit accused that central government of contemplating to break the ceasefire.
The army was mounting pressure on NSCN-K to follow the grounds rule of the ceasefire agreement and refrain from helping Ulfa (I), NDFB (S) and Metei armed rebel groups. Pointing out that NSCN-K rebels were involved in various terrorist activities in Nagaland, security sources said that outfit had also refused to homour the call of Naga civil society to re-enter the ceasefire agreement with the security forces.
