Protesters ask MLA to withdraw his statement
The Facebook forum against gender discrimination terms it "completely unethical and immoral"
Kozhikode: Protesters on social networking sites against the gender segregation at a noted educational institution in Malabar have asked Muslim League legislator K.M. Shaji to withdraw his controversial statement.
While inaugurating the college union of Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College, Farook, he said that those girls and boys who wish to sit together in a classroom breaking sex barriers should find another place or start their own. He also stated that it was against the culture of Kerala.
The Facebook forum against gender discrimination terms it "completely unethical and immoral". “When people fight here to break the barriers, a social leader (is making such a statement),” said Divya Prabhakar, a member of the forum.
Mr Shaji had also accused the protesters of selectively targeting minority institutions. The Facebook forum demands an immediate clarification from him.
