Hyderabad: ATM booth raider in cop custody
Recovered 22,000 cash, one debit card and mobile phone receipt
Hyderabad: CCTV footage helped cops nab an ATM booth raider. A man who cheated a RTC employee and looted cash from her bank account using her debit card was arrested by the police on Tuesday.
A. Ravinder targeted illiterate users and in the guise of helping them to operate the ATM machine, stole their cards and replaced them with fake cards.
The accused Ravinder, 42, is a habitual offender and targeted innocent and illiterate persons who came to ATM booths to withdraw money. He pretended to be a user and in a bid to help them, replaced their ATM cards with fake or stolen ones.
In Oct. 2015, Ms Anjali Devi, an employee of TSRTC came to the Bank of Baroda ATM booth at the Jubilee Bus Station. She withdrew Rs 5,000 and was busy counting the amount.
“During the process, Ravinder who stood behind her in the booth replaced her card with a fake card he was carrying with him. Later, he withdrew Rs 22,800 from her account at ATM centres at JBS and Siricilla,” said North Zone DCP, N. Prakash Reddy.
In another similar offence, Ravinder stole the debit card of M. Lingam, when he came to the same ATM booth in July 2015. Based on CCTV footages from the ATM booth, police on Tuesday arrested Ravinder and recovered from him Rs 22,000 in cash, one debit card and mobile phone receipt. Ravinder was sent to judicial remand.
