BENGALURU: The Aam Aadmi Party has said that the new BBMP council appears to be no different from the old one and was indulging in wasteful expenditure and ill-advised projects to siphon off public money.

AAP national executive member Prithvi Reddy pointed out that just before the BBMP elections in August, Rs 300 crore was spent for asphalting the road and now the Palike was planning another project to fill potholes. He called for a detailed investigation into how Rs 300 crore was spent.

Based on the investigation report, BBMP must initiate action against officials and contractors who are responsible for shoddy work and for squandering public money. The erring contractors must be blacklisted, he said.

Further, a long term and scientific approach should be adopted to re-construct roads as per international standards to ensure that it lasts at least  10 years and can be used for another 5 years with maintenance. A detailed plan for mobility should be prepared taking into account present condition of roads, traffic density and also the different needs of those who walk, use cycle and buses.
