Kunigal: Unique campaign to open eyes of MP, MLA

Tumakuru: People of Kunigal assembly constituency in Tumkauru district have begun a unique campaign on Facebook, to open the eye of Lok Sabha member D. K Suresh and Kunigal MLA D. Nagarajaiah, towards the development of Kunigal as they are ‘missing’ after 2013 elections.

An advertisement like post on the Facebook page ‘Narthanapuri Kunigal’, announces an attractive prize to those who find out the whereabouts of Bengaluru Rural MP D K Suresh and JDS MLA D Nagarajaiah, whom the post said were ‘Missing’.

The post reads in Kannada (Kaige Sigada Ettara, Mayavaguva Maikattu, Pollu Baravase Baashe maatanaduttare) that their height cannot be reached by anyone, their colour bound to change and their language only about electoral promises. The post asks people to bring them to the slushy roads of Kunigal if they are found.

In fact, the people of Kunigal have repeatedly expressed displeasure about MP D K Suresh, MLA D Nagarajaiah and Town Municipal Council members who have neglected to take up developmental works in the constituency including repair of roads. Kunigal comes under Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituency.

The post which carries the pictures of the MP and MLA says that the people of Kunigal have not seen their representatives in Kunigal since 2013 elections. “The old National Highway which passes through the city connecting Mangaluru and Hassan has become muddy and is full of potholes. The fate of most of the roads is no different,” it says.  The MLA’s son Jagadish, a TP member, blames it on the Government. “The PWD had transferred the rights of the NH repair in the town to the town municipality and it is not granting sufficient funds,” he alleged. He clarifies the works on UGD connection is underway.  

Over 500 people have liked the post and 50 have shared it. Around 1,500 people have liked the page, which was created a year ago. The page aims to bring all Kunigal people on a single platform.

“We should be proud of five places in Kunigal; the Stud Farm, Yadiyuru, Doddakere, Hutridurga Hills and Markonahalli dam,” the page says. The creator of the Facebook page remains anonymous.
However, it is reported that the municipality took up an operation to clear the clogged roads.
